Microsoft should stop producing Windows and license the code

Microsoft has already done deals with Novell, Linspire, and Xandros. What Microsoft needs to do is stop while they’re slightly ahead. Apple and Linux are both catching up and taking away customers. Not to mention most people aren’t too thrilled by what Vista has to offer and from what I’ve heard Steve Ballmer pretty much admitted they don’t have the balls to deliver a better Windows by next year.

So overall I’m suggesting that Microsoft offer their code as a way for other operating systems to provide legit Windows compatibility while not being sued. This would also obviously allow Microsoft to make money off their competitors. In the long-run it’s possible such an approach would make them irrelevant but from my stand-point they don’t have an option, they’re already becoming irrelevant.

Microsoft should buy Digital Interactive (DISCover)

Right now the Games for Windows scheme is just a marketing ploy. Which is fine but it helps if you have some meat behind your marketing schemes otherwise consumers get aggravated. Digital Interactive offers a couple advancements that could provide the extra something that would make Games for Windows meaningful to consumers.

Microsoft should buy MojoPac (merge with Startkey)

I know what you’re thinking, what’s the use right? I’m just thinking this way I can be sure they’ll still be in business years down the road. Oh and hopefully not charging fees or operating under a whole new business model, such is the way with startups.

Another advantage would possibly be Microsoft merging this with their new StartKey technology.

Microsoft should make a gaming centric OS

I’m talking about an OS with practically no lag and seriously enhanced stability like that of a game console. The game consoles are still much more preferable just because they aren’t such a hassle to do deal with.

(This idea is somewhat irrelevant since the inevitable future of gaming is that of a service over the internet. People will then be able to subscribe to get unlimited access to all the latest games without having to manage discs or dealing with the high costs of maintaining a gaming computer.)

Microsoft should fix Vista 1 cheer

- Windows Explorer crashes constantly (I installed the Vista SP1 update and it still didn’t fix the problem, meaning go get a new shell)
- Too many unnecessary files are allowed (I have to use utilities like nCleaner and DoubleKiller to get rid of all the junk)
- Add a way to deactivate touchpads from the mouse control panel
- Start menu shouldn’t have additional menus (load everything in the same space)
- The scrollbar should jump right to where you click (at least make it an option)
- Integrate the Windows Installer Clean Up utility

(Good news I just found a shell replacement, over on DownloadSquad, called Cairo. Oh and no I don’t work for DownloadSquad or it’s parent company. I just felt like sharing the news.)
